How do you get life insurance?
That’s the question you should be asking yourself when you drive through India’s red-hot roads, which have been on fire for months.
On a recent afternoon, I drove through the dusty, bustling city of Ahmedabad.
For about an hour, I looked at the houses that dotted the streets, the roadside shops, the empty lanes, the broken pavement and the charred-looking cars, many of which were in need of major repairs.
I wanted to know what life insurance policies were available, and where the cheapest policy was.
I did so by asking local insurance agents.
After asking questions online, I was able to get a quote from a broker, who suggested I look into life insurance for my car.
For now, I will keep my car in good condition, but my car is on a warranty, so it will need to be serviced before I can drive.
Here are a few tips to get the most out of life insurance: Know your options.
It’s a great idea to have a look at the life insurance terms and conditions that apply to your car, says Rakesh Khanna, a spokesperson for Life Insurance Australia.
These are generally pretty good, and usually include the full life insurance coverage, as well as a few other benefits.
“You don’t have to worry about the amount of money that’s guaranteed,” he says.
However, you may want to look at whether you have the option of adding some extra insurance.
For example, if you’re looking for a new car, you could consider adding up to three car insurance policies, Khanna says.
For people who are currently buying a new vehicle, you might want to add a new policy, as life insurance covers the cost of repair or replacement.
Check your policy before you buy.
If you’re not sure what you need, check your policies, he says, to make sure you are covered.
“It’s important to understand what your options are, so you know what to do if you need it,” Khanna adds.
If your policy doesn’t mention life insurance, look at how much coverage you can get for your car.
If the coverage is not good enough, you can ask your insurer to help.
Insurance agents are quick to offer advice, but not all insurance providers are created equal.
In some cases, you will need a more expensive policy, says Dr. Rajeev Chandrasekaran, an insurance analyst at Insurance.com.
That’s because there are different levels of coverage, Chandrasebarkaran says.
Insurance companies vary the types of life coverage you need.
Some offer a limited amount of life cover, while others cover the entire life.
You may also need to get coverage for your children, pets, your home or your vehicle.
Chandraseboran says you should also consider whether your insurance policy covers certain repairs.
For instance, if your policy covers your car’s engine and transmission, you need to consider whether you can pay the full cost of repairs to your vehicle, he explains.
If not, the policy may not cover them at all.
Insurance providers often charge higher premiums than other companies, and you may have to pay more out of pocket if you are injured in a car accident.
To see if your policies cover these things, go to your local insurer.
If that’s the case, you should ask for an insurance quote.
If it’s too expensive, go back to the broker, he advises.
The more expensive the policy, the more time you have to negotiate a price with your insurance company.
“Do you have a list of questions on your insurance card?
What kind of insurance does your company offer?” says Dr, Suman Patel, an independent medical advisor and life insurance broker.
You want to ask questions about your policy’s terms and condition, which might include questions like what kind of car is the policy covering, what happens if you lose your car or if you get a claim for unpaid bills.
You also want to talk to the insurance agent to find out what insurance they offer, Chandra says.
“Ask them for the minimum amount that you’re willing to pay,” he adds.
It may be hard to find insurance companies that offer more coverage, but if you do, Chandras is confident you will be able to pay it.
“Even if you have no money, you’re going to have the coverage,” he explains, so the insurance company should have your back.
The bigger your loss, the longer you can wait.
“The bigger your accident, the better coverage they’re going as long as you can afford it,” he continues.
If possible, Chandrabarkar says you may be able go to the police, who may be more willing to help out with claims.
If all else fails, your insurance provider might consider offering you a discount.
Chandra recommends asking your broker to get you quotes online.
“Be prepared to pay the cost,” he advises
