The People’s World, a magazine of travel news and lifestyle, published an exclusive article on Saturday on the people and places who have been making the most of their islands, and their connections to the Pacific Rim.
The publication, which is owned by Al Jazeera America, was founded in 2003 by former CNN producer and host Dan Rather, and is distributed by the news channel’s parent company, Time Warner.
The People magazine is published in more than 200 countries.
The editors and writers behind the magazine, who include Pulitzer Prize winner Chris Hedges, travel writer Daniel Kahneman, and author Stephen Dubner, are not affiliated with Al Jazeera.
The People is part of the Al Jazeera family of publications, which includes Al Jazeera English, Al Jazeera World, Al Jazeera English in Arabic, Al Manar in Arabic and Al Jazeera in English.
Al Jazeera has expanded the coverage of the Pacific, including in Asia and Africa, to include coverage of Middle East issues and has become one of the world’s largest networks in its home country of Qatar.
The network is also making its name with programs like “Amerika,” which looks at the people of the Middle East, and “Mubarak,” a documentary series focusing on the Arab Spring.
“Al Jazeera is truly a news channel that can’t be taken for granted, and our goal is to create the best platform for the voices of the people, whether they are young people in Bahrain or people who are living on the other side of the globe,” said Al Jazeera’s general manager of news and current affairs, Jibril Rajoub.
